Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a holiday to keep in mind the life of the famous civil rights leader and check out the history of the movement and where it goes from here.

On Monday, Uniting Bridges and also UW-Eau Claire continued those conversations through an online Martin Luther King Jr. remembrance celebration.

" We hope to bring some disparate groups with each other. We intend to bring a little peace as well as to uplift some individuals's spirits after a rather frightening two-and-a-half weeks of the beginning of 2021," claimed Selika Ducksworth-Lawton, UW-Eau Claire background professor.

Some panels concentrated on the unfortunate history of racial inequality.

Chippewa Falls Secondary school social studies instructor John Kinville spoke on a panel regarding the background of the Ku Klux Klan in the Chippewa Valley which he stated had 42 female members who at some point ignored the team.

" Each generation is faced with their own distinct sets of situations in which we're faced with options, selections regarding just how we're going to treat each other, options regarding what things we're going to believe and also where we're going to get our information," Kinville stated.

" And like Martin Luther King, there were individuals that disapproved of them as well as disapproved of their techniques," Ducksworth-Lawton said. "Martin Luther King had more than a 75% disapproval score in the United States when he was assassinated."

Ducksworth-Lawton claimed those links are why it is important to not neglect our history.

" This history is accurate and when we ignore it, it allows individuals to pull the exact same points over again," she said.
